Maruti Suzuki Commissions Seven Automated Driving Test Tracks in TN

Maruti Suzuki India has partnered with the Tamil Nadu government to commission seven Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) across the state as part of a Memorandum of Agreement to automate 10 driving test tracks. The company said that with the latest additions it has completed automation of all 10 ADTTs in the state. The move was described by the company as aimed at making the testing process comprehensive, efficient and transparent and at reducing human bias in licence issuance.

The company noted that the ADTTs are fitted with high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics and an integrated IT system that together enable a technology-enabled, standardised and objective testing regime. The equipment and software are intended to provide consistent assessment criteria and faster processing of applicants. The system is designed to support practical evaluation for both two-wheeler and light motor vehicle applicants and to record performance data for audit and training purposes.

Maruti Suzuki identified road safety as a central rationale for the programme and referred to official data indicating 177,000 road accident deaths in 2024 as reported by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The company emphasised that promoting disciplined driving practices and rigorous driver evaluation is vital to prevent accidents and to augment road safety across the country. The automation is expected to reduce subjective judgement and enhance transparency in licence issuance over time.

The ADTT network covers testing centres in Coimbatore (Central), Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Madurai (North), Sivagangai, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli (West), Tirunelveli, Tuticorin and Marthandam and will serve applicants for routine licence examinations. The implementation follows the Memorandum of Agreement between the company and the Transport Department of Tamil Nadu and forms part of a wider effort to modernise testing infrastructure. Officials expect standardised procedures to support training, reduce processing delays and to make outcomes more defensible against disputes.
