Work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor is advancing as stations near completion, with fresh images showing progress at both ends. Officials say the project remains on track for an expected launch in August 2027, even as construction proceeds at varying speeds across states. The update highlights visible differences between Mumbai and Surat, reflecting the technical and design demands at each site. In Mumbai, work at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is focused on deep excavation and foundation elements, with the terminal being constructed nearly 30 metres underground. Engineers are concluding major structural works and foundation piling, making this one of the most technically challenging segments of the corridor. The underground design aims to integrate the terminal within the city and minimise surface disruption, and authorities continue to monitor progress closely. In Gujarat, the Surat station is at a more advanced stage, with structural framework and roofing completed and interior finishing now under way. Contractors have moved to flooring, cladding and ceiling installation, with systems fit-out to follow to ready passenger amenities. The station design draws on Surat's diamond cutting industry to reflect local commercial identity and planners indicate interior work prioritises passenger flow and accessibility. The MAHSR will run on a dedicated 508 km high-speed rail corridor linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad and passing through Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The corridor will comprise 12 stations and connect several business and industrial hubs, and stations are being designed to reflect the character of their host cities while supporting transit oriented development. Trains are expected to run at a top speed of 320 km/h, covering the distance in approximately two hours, and authorities have indicated that phased operations could allow certain sections to become functional ahead of the full corridor.
