The government is also pursuing the Thane-Borivali twin-tunnel project and a new underground connectivity loop around the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The plans are part of a broader five-year infrastructure programme covering road and urban connectivity. The proposed projects are expected to improve links between western Mumbai, the northern suburbs and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region while easing pressure on existing arterial routes. The government has also highlighted the development of what it calls “Mumbai Three” and “Mumbai Four”, signalling a wider infrastructure strategy for the city. With multiple major road and tunnel projects progressing simultaneously, the programme is expected to reshape Mumbai’s transport network and improve connectivity between key commercial and residential zones.
