PGIMER Parking Project Stalled Over Green Clearance

The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh is facing continued delay on a parking infrastructure project that was approved 11 years ago and has not moved to construction owing to unresolved green clearance requirements. The institute had envisaged the facility to augment parking for patients, visitors and staff and to reduce congestion in the hospital precinct. Authorities have identified environmental permission and compliance requirements as the principal impediment to progress.

The stalled project has sustained pressure on existing parking and circulation within the campus, affecting day to day operations and access for emergency services. Hospital administrators have highlighted increased demand for parking as patient numbers and outpatient attendances expanded over the decade since approval.
