TNPDCL Seeks NOC For Vadakkalur Power Line

The Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) has submitted a proposal to the National Highways Department seeking a no-objection certificate (NOC) to install a twisted electricity cable from the Pasur sub-station to Vadakkalur village in Annur block, Coimbatore district.
Currently, Vadakkalur receives electricity from the Irumborai sub-station, located around 25 km away, resulting in frequent outages and high power losses. The TNPDCL has been trying for nearly five years to connect the village to the closer Pasur sub-station, but objections from the National Highways Department delayed the plan.
Following TNPDCL’s revised proposal to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, officials are now assessing it, with approval expected shortly.
Vadakkalur village panchayat has over 4,700 electricity connections across residential areas and farmland. At present, electricity is routed through roughly 80 transformers from Irumborai, causing severe line losses and frequent breakdowns—a problem raised by villagers, particularly farmers, for years.
A TNPDCL official explained that the project initially submitted in 2017 was delayed because installing lines along the Sathyamangalam–Annur National Highway for about one kilometre would have affected roadside trees. The revised plan uses an ABC twisted cable method that does not impact the trees, allowing the work to proceed once clearance is granted.
Once approved, TNPDCL will split the village’s electricity supply between Irumborai and Pasur, reducing strain on the lines and improving reliability. National Highways Department sources confirmed the proposal has been assessed and is likely to be cleared soon.
