Uttarakhand’s 72 MW Tyuni-Plasu Project Gets Forest Clearance

The 72 MW Tyuni-Plasu Hydropower Project in Uttarakhand has received final forest clearance from the Union Environment Ministry, allowing construction work to proceed, officials said. The project is being developed by state-owned UJVN on the Tons river in Tyuni tehsil of Dehradun district.

The project is estimated to generate around 298.5 mn units of electricity annually. Its development is expected to add clean power capacity in the state and support Uttarakhand’s efforts to strengthen energy security through greater use of its hydropower potential.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the forest clearance and described it as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to become self-reliant in the energy sector. He said Uttarakhand had considerable potential for hydropower generation and that the government was committed to using those resources while maintaining environmental balance.

Dhami also said the government was working to ensure that clearances and other procedures for hydropower projects were completed within set timelines. The objective was to facilitate the optimal use of the state’s water resources, he said.

UJVN Managing Director Ajay Kumar Singh said the final forest clearance would enable construction of the project to move forward. Once completed, the facility would provide additional electricity to Uttarakhand, strengthen the state’s energy security and contribute to economic development, according to the company.

The clearance marks a key regulatory step for the project, which is planned on the Tons river in Dehradun district. Further construction activity will follow the completion of the required procedures and approvals associated with the development.
