MRPL to Lay ATF Pipeline to Kempegowda International Airport

The authorised pipeline will have a capacity of two point five million tonnes per annum (mn t per annum) and is to be completed within 36 months. The capacity and timeline reflect the scale of the installation and planning requirements.

The move is intended to strengthen MRPL’s downstream marketing infrastructure and aviation fuel supply chain in Karnataka. It will create a direct, reliable and efficient ATF transportation link between MRPL’s Devangonthi infrastructure and one of India’s fastest growing aviation gateways. The development highlights the strategic role of fuel logistics in supporting airport operations and regional connectivity.

MRPL’s Devangonthi Marketing Terminal has emerged as a key infrastructure asset in the Bengaluru region. The terminal at Dodda Dasarahally was commissioned for dispatch of Motor Spirit, High Speed Diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel and receives finished petroleum products through the existing PMHBL pipeline from MRPL, Mangaluru. The terminal was set up to cater to expanding industrial and retail demand and now forms the logistical base for the pipeline connection.

Executive Director – Projects B H V Prasad said the proposed ATF pipeline would support the growing fuel requirement of Bengaluru airport and provide MRPL with a strategic launchpad to expand its hydrocarbon footprint in the region. The project assumes importance given Bengaluru’s expanding aviation footprint and sustained passenger and cargo growth, reinforcing the city’s position as a major aviation, technology and logistics hub. The initiative is expected to improve fuel security for airlines and reduce reliance on road transport for ATF deliveries.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has received authorisation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board to lay a petroleum product pipeline from the Devangonthi Marketing Terminal to Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (KIA).
