Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd (B-SMILE) has invited tenders for the construction of a 28 km elevated corridor between Yeshwantpur (Mathikere Cross) and Tin Factory Junction in KR Puram, marking the city’s longest and first tolled flyover. The corridor will pass through IISc, Mehkri Circle, Jayamahal Road, St John's Church Road and Ulsoor Lake and is part of a wider plan to ease congestion. The project has been structured under the build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) model and will allow the concessionaire to collect toll on the stretch for 30 years. The scheme has been estimated to cost Rs 35.37 bn, with the government providing 40 per cent viability gap funding. B-SMILE has said the model will ensure maintenance and quality of the elevated corridor while protecting commuter interests through applicable government notifications on user fees. Senior officials indicated that expanding the road network through elevated corridors is necessary to accommodate a rising vehicle population. The flyover is one of 11 projects planned to relieve traffic pressure across the city. B-SMILE is also expected to float tenders for an 18.5 km tolled flyover between Marenahalli Main Road at Ragigudda Junction and Kanakapura Main Road at Thalaghattapura Junction. Recently, B-SMILE awarded tenders for nine projects under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, under which the government will fund the projects and contractors will source materials and execute construction. Officials suggested that the mix of BOOT and EPC approaches aims to accelerate delivery while balancing investment responsibilities. The concession term, funding share and procurement timelines are detailed in the tender documents. Authorities noted the new corridor is intended to reduce travel times and improve traffic movement along key arterial stretches including KR Puram, and they have initiated the procurement process to move works forward. The concessionaire selection and subsequent approvals will determine the construction start date and phasing. B-SMILE officials advised that toll levels will follow government directives and that safeguards will be in place for commuters. The agency said further notices will be published as tendering progresses.
