BRO To Blacktop Sua Number One To Pargwal Road

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly that the blacktopping of the road from Sua number one to Pargwal in Akhnoor will be taken up by the Border Roads Organization (BRO). He made the announcement while replying to a question raised by Legislator Mohan Lal and indicated that the proposal aims to improve connectivity and road safety in the area. He underlined that the move is intended to address longstanding concerns over road durability and seasonal disruptions in the locality.

The road is proposed to be handed over to the Border Roads Organization for upgradation and blacktopping, and officials said the formal transfer from the Public Works (Roads and Buildings) Department to BRO is under process. Authorities suggested that transferring responsibility to BRO will facilitate access to specialised equipment and technical expertise, and is expected to accelerate work without compromising standards. Officials added that the BRO's project management practices may introduce standardised reporting and quality checks to monitor progress.

Local representatives and administrative sources highlighted the strategic value of the route for commerce, access to services and daily commuting, noting that a paved surface will reduce travel time and recurrent maintenance costs. The administration said careful planning will be required to manage traffic during works, to address drainage and to incorporate safety features such as signage and shoulders. Residents welcomed the plan while seeking clear timelines and measures to protect roadside utilities and farmland during construction.

The announcement reflects broader infrastructure priorities in the union territory to bolster rural links and support economic activity in peripheral areas, and officials stated that similar criteria will guide evaluation of future projects. The government committed to updating the Assembly on progress as formal agreements are completed and timelines are established. The Assembly was told that subsequent updates will detail schedules, contractor selection and oversight arrangements as the transfer process advances.
