Centre Plans High-speed Kozhikode-Palakkad Highway, says Minister Riyas

The Department of Road Transport and Highways confirmed in the Kerala Assembly that the greenfield highway connecting Kozhikode, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts would be developed into a high-speed corridor. Minister PA Mohammed Riyas highlighted that this initiative aims to improve travel efficiency and safety along the 120.845 km stretch.

Significant progress had been made in land acquisition for the project. Of the required 569.3 hectare, 542 hectare have already been secured. The greenfield highway is expected to significantly enhance regional transportation.

Safety and traffic measures The highway's design has been developed with a strong focus on ensuring passenger safety and maintaining smooth traffic flow. Initially, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) planned for 12 access points along the corridor. However, based on updated traffic studies, the number of access points has been reduced to enhance safety and traffic management.

The NHAI is currently revising the detailed project report to incorporate these adjustments. Minister Riyas stated that the government is committed to addressing any public concerns related to the project while ensuring high safety standards and meeting the needs of the population.
