Delhi to Get Rs 8.03 Billion for Roads and Flyover Upgrades

A major transformation is on the horizon for Delhi’s roads and flyovers. The central government has approved a substantial fund of Rs 8.03 billion aimed at revamping 152 key roads and flyovers in the capital. The project will cover 330 kilometres of roads to be repaired, widened, and include the construction of new flyovers.

This work in Delhi will be carried out under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF). Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh announced that this project is not merely about road repairs but about providing world-class urban infrastructure to Delhi. Singh emphasised the importance of robust roads for the safety and convenience of millions of commuters, stating that roads are a city’s identity.

The makeover will encompass major roads across several parts of Delhi, including North, East, Northeast, Shahdara, Central, and West Delhi. The project targets roads with heavy daily traffic, used by millions of people.

Key roads and flyovers slated for improvement include:

  • Kashmiri Gate ISBT to Wazirabad Road
  • Loni Chakkar to Delhi Border Arterial Road
  • Vivek Vihar-GT Road Connector
  • Noida Link Road
  • ITO Loop and Ferozshah Road
  • IP College and Mall Road
  • Rohtak Road (Military Road-Jhansi Road)
  • Aali Vihar to Sarita Vihar Village
  • Press Enclave Road
  • Nizamuddin-Kalkaji Stretch
  • Outer Ring Road (Vikaspuri-Najafgarh Drain)
  • Ashoka Road to Laxmi Vihar Extension

Additionally, three new flyovers will be constructed on Rohtak Road (Military Road-Jhansi Road), Rajouri Garden-Tagore Garden, and Road 63-Gokulpuri. These developments aim to alleviate traffic congestion and provide much-needed relief to residents of Outer and Northeast Delhi.

The Centre has mandated that all projects receive technical and financial approval within four months, or they will be considered automatically approved.
