Himachal Pradesh Secures Rs 2,394.5 Million CRIF Sanction for Road Upgrades

The Government of Himachal Pradesh has secured administrative approval of Rs 2,394.5 million (mn) under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund for 2026-27 from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for two road upgradation projects in the state. The Public Works and Urban Development Minister welcomed the approval and said the sanction resulted from sustained and coordinated efforts by the State Government and the Public Works Department with the Union Ministry under the leadership of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The minister added that the sanction reflects the State's continued focus on improving connectivity and rural livelihoods.

The approved projects comprise the upgradation of the Chhaila-Neripul-Yashwant Nagar-Kumarhatti Road worth Rs 2,035.2 mn and the remaining 16 kilometre stretch of the Tikkar-Jarol-Khamadi Road worth Rs 359.3 mn. The inclusion of the remaining 16 kilometre stretch completes the entire corridor and is expected to provide major relief to farmers and horticulturists, particularly in the Rampur Assembly Constituency.

The minister noted that the Chhaila-Neripul-Yashwant Nagar-Kumarhatti Road serves as a lifeline for apple-growing regions such as Theog, Kotkhai, Jubbal, Rohru and Chopal. Upgradation will improve road connectivity, facilitate faster and safer transportation of apples and other horticultural produce, reduce transportation costs and strengthen the rural economy.

He said the State Government would expedite procedural formalities so that construction commences at the earliest and is completed within the stipulated timeframe. The Government of Himachal Pradesh remains committed to working constructively with the Government of India to secure developmental benefits for the people of the state. The projects were described as investments in livelihoods that will enhance market access, reduce post-harvest losses and contribute to long-term growth of the horticulture sector.
