Hyderabad Proposes Third Elevated Corridor In Western Zone

Hyderabad may soon see a major decongestion drive, with the Telangana government proposing a third elevated corridor to improve traffic flow across the rapidly expanding western part of the city.

After clearing two elevated corridors from Paradise Junction to Shamirpet Outer Ring Road and from Paradise Junction to Dairy Farm Road on NH-44, the government has now proposed a nine-kilometre elevated link from the Integrated Command and Control Centre near Banjara Hills Road No. 12 to the Shilpa Layout Flyover Road.

Designed to accommodate a future Metro Rail line on the same pier system, the proposed corridor is expected to ease chronic traffic bottlenecks at Filmnagar, Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills Checkpost, the Hitec City approach road and the wider IT corridor. Officials said the project is aimed at improving mobility, reducing emissions caused by vehicle idling and enhancing overall transport efficiency in the western zone.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has been tasked with conducting a detailed feasibility study covering alignment, structural design, land acquisition requirements, environmental impact and traffic patterns. If the project is found viable, it is proposed to be implemented under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer model.

As part of the process, the authority will appoint technical, financial and legal consultants to prepare the feasibility report, detailed project report and bid documents. The consultants will assess traffic demand, develop preliminary designs for road and bridge structures, plan utility relocation and prepare cost estimates. Field surveys will be carried out to finalise the alignment, bridge locations and intersection layouts.
