Hyderabad Vijayawada Regional Ring Road To Begin Soon

The tender process for the Hyderabad–Vijayawada Regional Ring Road along National Highway 65 has been completed, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav said on 10 May. He made the remark during a meeting with the Telangana Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. NHAI has completed pre-construction formalities and arrangements are under way to commence works shortly. The project is being positioned as a major link between the twin cities.

The minister urged NHAI to prioritise an eight-lane expansion of the Hyderabad–Vijayawada highway to improve safety and reduce frequent accidents. Officials indicated that the widening will follow national standards and incorporate safety features at accident-prone stretches. Coordination between state and central agencies has been emphasised to expedite land acquisition and clearances. Authorities plan phased implementation to limit disruption to traffic.

The state government has decided to construct a seven point one kilometre (km) double-decker elevated corridor modelled on Nagpur from LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar, and a detailed project report has been submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The elevated section is intended to decongest urban approaches and provide uninterrupted flows for long-distance traffic. Technical studies and environmental assessments are being finalised as part of the DPR process. Funding frameworks and tender schedules will follow once approvals are obtained.

Officials said the Regional Ring Road initiative will integrate with existing highway networks and ancillary infrastructure to support regional mobility and economic growth. Stakeholders have been asked to maintain timelines while addressing local concerns on alignment and access. The meeting underscored a coordinated push by the state and NHAI to advance major road projects in the region. Work on individual packages will proceed as contractual and statutory prerequisites are completed.
