The Maharashtra government has constituted a high-level committee to address chronic road deterioration, traffic congestion and infrastructure shortfalls in the Chakan industrial belt. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged on Friday that Chakan faced serious infrastructure problems and said the administration would take steps to provide relief to industries operating in the area. The announcement followed mounting criticism from companies over pothole-ridden roads and persistent traffic snarls that have disrupted industrial activity. The panel has been tasked to review existing road networks, traffic management arrangements and ancillary utilities and to recommend time-bound remedial measures. It will be expected to coordinate with regional authorities, local bodies and industrial representatives to identify priority stretches and bottlenecks. Officials will be required to prepare implementation schedules and monitor progress to ensure swift execution of repair and improvement works promptly. Industry stakeholders had highlighted the adverse impact of poor infrastructure on logistics, production timelines and employee commutes, prompting renewed calls for decisive action.
