Mumbai-Goa Highway Completion Set for 2026: Minister Bhosale

The long-delayed Mumbai-Goa Highway is now expected to be completed by the end of 2026, according to Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale. Key pending works, including the Mangaon-Indapur stretch, the collapsed flyover at Bahadur Sheikh area in Chiplun, and the Sangameshwar-Lanja stretch, have been reviewed, with orders issued to speed up their completion.

The 439-km highway has faced multiple setbacks over the years, with traffic jams and damaged roads becoming a recurring issue, especially during the monsoon. While construction in Sindhudurg district is complete, work in Raigad and Ratnagiri districts has been delayed due to land acquisition issues, environmental clearances, contractor inefficiency, and legal disputes.

Under the leadership of the Mahayuti government and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Bhosale has personally inspected the incomplete sections, addressing major bottlenecks like the Chiplun flyover collapse, Kashedi Ghat issues, and traffic congestion at Wadkhal Naka. Plans are also underway for alternate service roads and underpasses to ease travel.

Mangaon-Indapur Stretch: New contractor to be appointed soon after replacing the previous one.
Chiplun Flyover: Collapsed girder to be replaced at the contractor’s own expense.
Sangameshwar-Lanja Stretch: Contractor disputes resolved, allowing work to resume.
Kashedi Ghat Tunnel: Expected completion by May 2025.
