Mysuru-Kushalnagar Highway Work Advances on 2 Key Stretches

The 92-kilometre Mysuru–Kushalnagar four-lane highway project is progressing steadily, with construction actively underway on two significant stretches.

Work is ongoing on a 19-kilometre section from Agrahara in Srirangapatna to Yalachanahalli in Mysuru taluk, and a 24.1-kilometre segment from Belthur in Hunsur taluk to Harave Mallarajapattana in Periyapatna taluk.

The recent approval of Package 3 by the Central Government is expected to further improve connectivity along the Bengaluru–Mysuru–Madikeri corridor. Once completed, the highway will significantly reduce travel time between Bengaluru and Kushalnagar.

According to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the new alignment will start at Guddehosur near Kushalnagar and end near Srirangapatna, linking up with the Bengaluru–Mysuru National Highway 275.

The highway also features bypasses at Periyapatna and Kushalnagar to ease urban traffic congestion. Officials highlighted that the alignment has been designed to pass mainly through agricultural and dry lands, thereby reducing social and environmental impact.

The project was first proposed in 2018, when then Member of Parliament Prathap Simha secured initial approval from Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for the Mysuru–Madikeri four-lane highway. However, environmental concerns over the Kushalnagar–Madikeri stretch led to a reworking of the plan, resulting in the Mysuru–Kushalnagar alternative.

Momentum for the project increased following the bhoomi puja (ground-breaking ceremony) conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 12 March 2023 during the inauguration of the Bengaluru–Mysuru Highway near Gejjalagere.
