NHAI Offers Rs 1,000 Reward For Reporting Unclean Toll Toilets

NHAI has introduced a scheme offering Rs 1,000 to FASTag users who report unhygienic or unclean toilets at toll plazas, aiming to improve sanitation standards along national highways. The incentive is intended to encourage commuters to flag facilities that fall below acceptable cleanliness levels. The move is part of broader efforts to ensure passenger amenities are maintained.

Under the scheme, users of FASTag will be required to submit complaints through the official FASTag grievance mechanism, with NHAI undertaking verification of reports before any reward is issued. The authority has outlined that evidence may be reviewed and that only verified complaints will attract the incentive to prevent misuse. The process is designed to be simple and to promote public participation in oversight.

NHAI indicated that the Rs 1,000 reward would be credited to the FASTag account of the reporting user after verification and that action would be taken against concessionaires responsible for facility upkeep where lapses are confirmed. The authority expects the measure to strengthen accountability at toll plazas and to complement routine inspections and maintenance schedules. Toll operators are being reminded of their contractual obligations to provide clean amenities.

Officials framed the initiative as aligning with national sanitation objectives and as a step towards improving traveller experience on highways. By involving road users directly, NHAI intends to create an additional layer of monitoring beyond periodic audits. The authority believes that timely reporting linked to a tangible incentive will incentivise better performance.

Commuters were encouraged to make use of the reporting channel whenever they encounter substandard toilet facilities so that corrective measures can be pursued. NHAI said it will continue to monitor implementation and refine the scheme as required to ensure sustained improvements in amenity management.
