Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated two infrastructure projects in Mumbai and its metropolitan region via a video link from the Sahyadri Guest House in south Mumbai, with Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar present. He opened the final BKC?Vakola arm of the Santacruz?Chembur Link Road Phase Two and the Chembur Metro station on Metro Line Two B, and launched Arjuna, the second tunnel boring machine for the Thane?Borivali twin?tunnel road project. The moves form part of efforts by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and other agencies to improve mobility and connectivity. Fadnavis said the projects were important additions to the city’s infrastructure and would ease congestion while enhancing movement across adjoining areas. Six connectivity links had been planned in 2017?18 to decongest the Bandra?Kurla Complex (BKC), but eight were ultimately created, with the final link inaugurated on the day. He added the BKC?Vakola portion on Bharat Nagar Road would improve access and help regulate traffic leaving the complex, though further measures would be needed to smooth flow on the Western Express Highway. The Chief Minister welcomed the Union government decision to procure 238 new air conditioned suburban trains from three production units under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project, saying the first batch was expected by 2027 with full delivery by 2029?30. He said the aim was to provide commuters with a modern, metro?like suburban rail system. Fadnavis noted the first TBM, Nayak, had been launched in April and that both machines would now be deployed simultaneously to accelerate tunnelling after obstacles were overcome. The twin tunnels are being built to provide a direct east?west road connection between Thane and Borivali and are expected to reduce travel time from about 60?90 minutes to around 12 to 15 minutes. He said the elevated connector in the G?Block area of BKC would provide faster movement and reduce travel time for motorists. An infrastructure facility was named after former chief minister Babasaheb Bhosale.
