Gadkari seeks railway connectivity to JNPT to reduce container traffic

In order to reduce container traffic on the Pune-Mumbai expressway, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, has suggested building a railway line that connects to JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust). Container traffic on the Pune-Mumbai motorway is significant.

The majority of these cars are headed for JNPT port. If a dedicated metro line is constructed, all container transportation will be moved to rail instead of the road. He has requested that the state of Maharashtra create a detailed project report (DPR) for it and submit it to the railway ministry.
