Lucknow Metro Opens 30-Day NCMC Exchange Window

Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has opened a special 30-day exchange window for existing Lucknow Metro GoSmart Card holders to switch to the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), an official statement said. During the period passengers may surrender their existing GoSmart Card at any Lucknow Metro station and receive an NCMC free of cost. The corporation has advised passengers to first utilise the balance on their GoSmart Card and to exhaust it before surrendering the card for exchange.

The National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), popularly known as One Nation One Card, is an interoperable mobility card that enables use of a single card across participating transport and payment services. With the transition to NCMC, the existing range of Lucknow Metro cards including GoSmart Cards, Tourist Cards and Super Saver Cards will be discontinued and the NCMC will become the primary mobility card for Lucknow Metro passengers. The corporation said the NCMC is designed to offer an integrated, cashless way to travel.

The NCMC can be used wherever interoperability is available across other participating metro systems, buses, parking facilities and retail outlets, offering passengers greater convenience and reduced need for multiple tickets. The card also provides a 10 per cent discount on every journey on Lucknow Metro and aims to simplify travel by consolidating fares on a single token. UPMRC expects the move to improve passenger experience and support wider adoption of interoperable payments in urban mobility.

For new users the card issuance charge is Rs 100, which is non-refundable, while NCMC cards are being issued through designated Airtel Payments Bank counters and kiosks at Lucknow Metro stations. The minimum top-up amount is Rs 100 and the maximum is Rs 2,000 during regular recharge operations. UPMRC managing director Sushil Kumar said the initiative is intended to replace multiple cards with one interoperable instrument and the 30-day exchange opportunity will allow existing card holders to transition without charge.
