Metro services likely on Joka-Taratala, Garia-Ruby

Commuting in Kolkata will become easier soon, as Metro services on two new routes, Joka-Taratala and Garia-Ruby, are expected to begin by the end of this year. The East-West Metro, which connects Salt Lake and Howrah via Kolkata, is also expected to begin operations by August of next year. The East-West Metro has been delayed significantly due to three accidents during tunnelling work at Bowbazar in central Kolkata over the last three years. The Joka-Esplanade Line, which was delayed significantly, will have shortened services between Joka and Taratala in the first phase. The trial run between Joka and Taratala began in September, and commercial services will begin after the necessary clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
