Siemens Wins Rs 2.10 Bn Rail Line Electrification Order from IRCON

Siemens announced that it had secured a Rs 2.10-billion order from IRCON International for the electrification of the Sivok-Rangpo rail line. The project, connecting Sivok (West Bengal) to Rangpo (Sikkim), is part of the first electrified rail line in the region, linking Sikkim to the national rail grid, as stated by Siemens.

Gunjan Vakharia, the Head of the Mobility Business at Siemens, mentioned that by implementing advanced technologies like the Rigid Overhead Catenary system and predictive maintenance solutions across 40 kilometres of tunnels in the Himalayan foothills, Siemens was enabling more sustainable and efficient rail operations while showcasing its expertise in overcoming complex geographical challenges.

Vakharia further emphasised that the new project not only strengthens critical infrastructure in a strategically important region but also sets a new benchmark for railway electrification in challenging terrains.

Siemens had previously electrified the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link, which connected the Kashmir valley to the national grid.
