Tiruchy railway division aims for 15 MT freight target in FY 2023-24

The Tiruchy railway division has established a freight target of 15 million tonne (MT) for the financial year 2023-24. Efforts are underway to achieve this target. In the previous financial year, 2022-23, the railway division exceeded the set target of 1.9 MT by successfully handling a total of 13.52 MT of goods.

Currently, the Tiruchy division operates good sheds in approximately 23 locations, including Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladurai, Sirkazhi, Chidambaram, and other areas in the delta region. Additionally, the railway division has decided to establish new good sheds in Thiruthuraipoondi and Agasthiarpatti as soon as possible.

The Tiruchy railway division handles a higher volume of food grain transportation compared to other divisions of the Southern Railway, given its jurisdiction over the delta region. The body anticipates setting a new record this year, with a food grain transportation target of 3 MT. Notably, approximately 90% of food grain transportation within the Southern Railway is managed by the Tiruchy division, which achieved a new record last year by handling 2.9 MT of food grains.

Furthermore, the division is also aiming to establish a record in coal transportation.
