Trials for Mumbai Metro line 3 to begin by early 2022: MMRCL

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) is planning to launch trials for Mumbai Metro line 3 by early 2022 after it received approval from Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray.

Ranjit Singh Deol, Managing Director of MMRCL, said that the Maharashtra state government has allowed MMRCL to build a temporary facility, including a train delivery and testing track area for technical trials of the prototype trains 8-coach.

He said that two weeks after assembling the train coaches by January 2022, trials for the Colaba-Bandra-Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ) underground Mumbai Metro 3 corridors might begin.

The technical trials will begin from the ramp on the west of the Marol-Maroshi Road in Andheri East in a vacant road diversion to an upcoming underpass.

Deol said that two metro trains of 8-cars each are ready, and the third is under manufacturing. For the testing of the prototype train, temporarily, the parking facility will be at Marol-Maroshi Road.

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has directed MMRCL not to cut any trees in the Aarey Colony area, the rejected site for car-shed and instead build the ramp on Marol-Maroshi Road for trials programme.

Deol said that currently, for the Metro Line 3, the tunnel work of around 97% and civil works of about 70% is completed, and the trials of the prototype trains will be a major milestone.
