JNPA Achieves 7 Million TEUs Milestone in 2024

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, which manages India’s largest state-owned container gateway and the second largest in the country, announced that it achieved a milestone by handling 7.05 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in 2024, marking a 10.99 per cent increase compared to 2023. This is the first time the port has crossed the 7 million TEUs mark since its inception 25 years ago.

The total cargo handled by the port, including container and non-container freight, increased by 4.25 per cent in 2024, reaching 90.27 million tonnes, the highest volume recorded since its establishment.

Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals, operated by PSA International, and Gateway Terminals India, managed by A P M Terminals, both exceeded the 2 million TEUs container handling threshold in 2024. Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals set a record by handling 2.12 million TEUs, the highest container handling by any terminal in a calendar year.

During the period from April to December 2024 (FY25), the port handled 5.377 million TEUs and 68.37 million tonne of total cargo, reflecting increases of 13.09 per cent and 6.96 per cent, respectively, compared to the same period in FY24, according to the port authority.
