Coal ban may shut down Meghalaya Cement cos

Cement companies in East Jaintia Hills district, Meghalaya, are facing threat of closing down due to the ban imposed by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on extraction of coal and its transportation in the area, while NGT court lifted the ban on transportation of the assessed and extracted coal only for its transportation to Beltola in Assam. Approximately 2,000 to 2,500 trucks are seen transporting coal to Assam every day.
