Vedanta Aluminium Partners with GAIL

Vedanta Aluminium has signed a gas sales agreement with GAIL Gas Ltd, a subsidiary of GAIL (India) Ltd, to supply natural gas to its Jharsuguda smelter in Odisha, aiming to reduce emissions and enhance sustainability.

Key Points: Pipeline Setup: GAIL Gas will establish a 7.5-km pipeline to deliver 32,000 standard cubic metres of natural gas per day over a five-year contract, operational by late 2025.

Emission Reductions: Transitioning to natural gas will cut emissions by 47,292 tonnes of CO2 equivalent annually, supporting Vedanta’s net-zero target by 2050.

Strategic Commitment: Vedanta integrates renewable energy usage and afforestation in its dual approach to sustainability.

Quote: "This partnership reflects our dedication to cleaner energy solutions," stated Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Ltd. Production Goals: The cleaner energy strategy complements Vedanta Aluminium's FY24 production of 2.37 million tonnes, aligning with India's growing demand for aluminium in key sectors.

This collaboration exemplifies Vedanta's drive to enhance operational efficiency while contributing to India's sustainability goals.
