Andritz Secures Order From Torrent Power For 3,000 MW Pumped Storage

ANDRITZ has secured an order from Torrent Power to supply electromechanical equipment for a 3,000 MW pumped storage project in Maharashtra. The Saidongar-1 Karjat pumped storage plant, being developed by Torrent Energy Storage Solutions, a subsidiary of Torrent Power, will have a total capacity of 3,000 MW and will become India’s largest pumped storage facility once operational. The contract positions the project as a significant addition to the country’s grid storage capability.

Under the contract ANDRITZ will design, manufacture, install, test and commission 10 reversible pump turbine units together with motor-generators and associated electromechanical systems, with execution to leverage its manufacturing base in India and a global engineering network. The order value is reported to be in the low three-digit million euro range and will be recorded in ANDRITZ’s first quarter 2026 order intake. The company will manage project integration and on-site commissioning.

Once commissioned the plant is expected to generate around 6,241 GWh of electricity annually and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4.55 mn t per year, an impact said to be equivalent to removing nearly 1 mn cars from the road. The annual generation figure will support efforts to balance variable renewable generation and to provide grid stability during peak demand. The scale of storage is designed to enable multi-hour dispatchable supply.

Torrent Power described the project as a major milestone in its clean energy transition strategy and indicated it will play a critical role in enabling round-the-clock renewable power supply through large-scale storage. The collaboration was characterised by a combination of engineering capability and utility-scale execution experience to deliver reliable infrastructure. ANDRITZ is currently engaged in seven pumped storage projects across the country.
