Websol Energy has shifted a proposed four gigawatt (GW) solar manufacturing plant from Andhra Pradesh to West Bengal. The company said the move followed a review of logistical, policy and infrastructure factors and will focus on module and cell production at the new site. The project retains the original capacity of four GW and aligns with domestic manufacturing objectives for the regional solar supply chain. State authorities in West Bengal were cited as facilitating approvals and offering land and utilities to accelerate construction. Company executives indicated the location offers improved connectivity to ports, a skilled workforce and proximity to component suppliers, factors that influenced the decision. Local suppliers will be engaged to support component assembly and logistics. The project will integrate with national manufacturing schemes and enhance regional capacity for solar module assembly. The company plans to finalise site selection and commence detailed engineering in the coming months, with timelines subject to statutory clearances. Construction scheduling will consider supply chain readiness and equipment installation for large scale photovoltaic production. The facility design will incorporate automation and quality control systems to meet international standards. Investments will focus on high throughput lines capable of delivering cells and modules for domestic and export markets. The company said the change underscores its commitment to domestic manufacturing and to meeting growing demand for solar technology across the Asia Pacific region.
