Indo-Lanka power plant to commission soon

The much-delayed agreements between India and Sri Lanka on the 1,000 MW Sampur coal power plant and the Indo-Lanka under-sea cable are to be concluded in the near future. Clearance for the second power plant is likely to be obtained by next month. The MoU on Sampur was signed way back in 2006 and the projects were to start-off by June 2008. However, India wants this to be implemented as soon as possible, since it is looking forward to purchase power from Sri Lanka.
