MMRDAs new office building gets inaugurated

A new iconic administrative building of the MMRDA was inaugurated recently in BKC in Mumbai, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis. The recently constructed nine storey building has been designed and built by Team One architects, with green (sustainable) features including energy-efficient water, lighting, HVAC systems. Equipped with many facilities; such as hi-tech and modern auditorium, board rooms, two-level basement, two service floors, public address system, CCTVs, door frame metal detectors and many more, the building also provides for an effective sewerage treatment plant, rainwater harvesting and solar panels among other facilities. “The new MMRDA office building is indeed iconic. It’s spacious, elegant and represents the modern culture that is created by MMRDA by undertaking and completing various infrastructure projects not only in the city but also in its metropolitan region. The government organisation that is undertaking mega projects invoking global attention required such state-of-the-art facility,” said Fadnavis after inaugurating the building.  It features a column free-space on all floors. While the main staircase and lift lobbies are provided with granite flooring; the LED lights, high ceilings, skylight and floor-to- ceiling windows create abundant natural light in work and common areas. The lobbies and entrance are provided with Italian marble flooring. The actual envelope of this L- shaped building is composed of durable glazed units. New building strategies and self-sustainable technologies have been put into practice through this initiative. The project had missed four deadlines of completion earlier, before being executed this year. A reported amount of Rs 106 crore has been spent by MMRDA in total for the construction of this building. The estimated cost of this project was pegged at Rs 87 crore, when first proposed in December 2007.
