Punjab govt starts 3D mapping of land

The Punjab government has embarked on the 3D mapping of a designated plot of land for the construction of the new Dr. B R Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) building. The upcoming facility will be situated in Sector 81, adjacent to the Institute of Nano Sciences and Technology (INST), on a 28-acre parcel of land that has been officially allocated to AIMS.

Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director-Principal of AIMS, elaborated on the initiative, stating, "The 3-D mapping of the land is being conducted to ensure the most optimal layout plan for the medical college building. Subsequently, a comprehensive project report will be prepared, and construction work will be awarded."

This project has faced delays as it was initially slated to commence in 2023 following the finalization of the land last year.

Once initiated, the project is expected to be completed within 30 months. Currently, the medical college operates from the premises of the civil hospital building in Phase VI Mohali. Initially, a piece of land in Jujhar Nagar, located just behind the civil hospital, was earmarked for the medical college. However, due to unfavorable conditions, the Jujhar Nagar site was abandoned in favor of the current location in Sector 81.

The new Dr. B R Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences building represents a significant advancement in healthcare infrastructure in Punjab, aimed at providing quality medical education and services to the region.
