Bombay High Court at Goa Takes Action on Illegal Constructions

The Bombay High Court at Goa has initiated suo motu proceedings regarding the growing issue of illegal constructions throughout the state. The court has registered a new petition, raising concerns over unauthorized structures along roads, in coastal regulation zones (CRZ), and within village panchayat and municipal jurisdictions.

Advocate General Devidas Pangam revealed that the court is particularly troubled by constructions that emerge overnight, both temporary and permanent in nature. The court plans to monitor the situation closely to ensure that village panchayats and the director of panchayats are taking appropriate action against these illegal activities.

While no formal directions have been issued, the court urged the Goa government to find a solution to the increasing problem of unauthorized weekend constructions. The government and the director of panchayats have been made parties to the case, with further hearings scheduled for October 22.
