Honeywell inks long-term pact with Air India for APU maintenance

Honeywell, a global conglomerate, announced that it has signed a long-term agreement with Tata Group-owned Air India for the maintenance of Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) for the airline's existing and new aircraft fleet. This aftermarket support agreement for Honeywell APUs will help Air India reduce unplanned maintenance costs and downtime, ensuring high aircraft dispatch and fleet availability, according to the Nasdaq-listed company. The APU is a critical piece of aircraft equipment that provides electrical power and air conditioning while the plane is on the ground. It ensures passenger comfort and supplies the air source before the pilot starts the main engines. Air India currently operates over 300 aircraft, including its legacy fleet of more than 100 Airbus A320s, 15 Boeing B777s, and a new fleet of 190 Boeing B737-8 aircraft, as noted by Honeywell. "We are strengthening our collaboration with Air India and aiding in its fleet modernization efforts, as part of our long-standing commitment to supporting the carrier's innovation and growth objectives," said Ashish Modi, President, Honeywell India. "This agreement is a key component of our global growth and transformation plans, aiming to achieve more efficient and reliable operations with maximised fleet availability through Honeywell's advanced technology services," added Sisira Kanta Dash, Chief Technical Officer, Air India.
