JSW Steel Reports May Crude Steel Output Growth

JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production for May 2026 at 2.293 million tonnes (mn t), registering 15 per cent year on year growth. The company said Indian operations produced 2.198 million tonnes while the JSW Steel USA Ohio unit contributed 0.095 million tonnes, taking consolidated output to 2.293 mn t for the month.

Production improved mainly because the Dolvi unit operated at full capacity and joint venture operations at JVML were fully ramped up, while one blast furnace had been under planned maintenance in May 2025. Blast Furnace three at Vijayanagar is under shutdown for capacity upgradation and is expected to restart in the second fortnight of June 2026.

The company indicated that capacity utilisation for Indian operations, excluding Blast Furnace three was approximately 98 per cent and including that capacity was 87 per cent. It also noted that the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited was transferred to JSW-JFE Steel Limited on a slump-sale basis in March 2026 and that production figures for the prior year had been adjusted accordingly for comparison.

JSW Steel was described as the flagship business of the diversified US$ 23 billion (US$ 23 bn) JSW Group with a combined crude steel capacity of 37.9 MTPA, including 4.5 MTPA through the JSW JFE Steel joint venture. The company plans to expand combined capacity to 54.8 MTPA over the next four years and aims to reduce CO2 emissions from steel making operations by 42 per cent by 2030, with a commitment to achieve net neutral carbon emissions under direct control by 2050. The group said the operational momentum is expected to support steady supplies to downstream industries while the company pursues capacity enhancements and will focus on efficiency gains and sustaining high utilisation levels across plants over the coming quarters to meet customer demand.
