SAIL Steel Used in INS Anjadip Commissioning

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has supplied the entire quantity of special-grade steel for INS Anjadip, a corvette built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE). SAIL is the largest steelmaking public sector unit and a Maharatna company. INS Anjadip is the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) corvette to be commissioned into the Indian Navy, following the commissioning of INS Arnala and INS Androth last year.

The ASW-SWC corvettes are being built indigenously to replace the Navy's ageing Abhay-class vessels and to enhance coastal anti-submarine capabilities. SAIL supplied the full quantity of approximately 3,500 tonne (t) of special-grade steel for the eight ASW-SWC corvettes that GRSE is constructing, meeting technical specifications and delivery schedules agreed with the shipbuilder.

The steel was sourced from SAIL's integrated plants at Bokaro, Bhilai and Rourkela, demonstrating the depth of the domestic supply chain and the ability of national producers to support defence indigenisation. The delivery underscores SAIL's role in advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat by reducing import dependence and by enabling Indian shipyards to execute complex naval projects with indigenous inputs.

This milestone follows SAIL's earlier contributions to major naval programmes and highlights an ongoing partnership between the steel producer and defence shipbuilders. Over time SAIL has supplied special-grade steel for projects such as INS Vikrant, INS Udaygiri, INS Nilgiri and INS Surat, reinforcing a steady pipeline of materials for naval construction.

The coordinated effort between SAIL and GRSE is presented as supporting timely commissioning and operational readiness of the new corvettes, while strengthening domestic manufacturing capability across multiple industrial centres. Continued sourcing from integrated plants is expected to sustain supply reliability for current and future naval programmes.

Implementation Status of Jal Jeevan Mission

Since August 2019 the Government has implemented Jal Jeevan Mission to provide assured potable water through household tap connections in rural India.
