Private jet skids off the runway Mumbai Airport

The incident caused a temporary suspension of flight operations at the airport for around 90 minutes, with flights redirected to Goa and Ahmedabad.

A CSMIA spokesperson issued a statement, saying, "On 14.09.2023, M/s VSR Ventures Learjet 45 aircraft VT-DBL operating flight from Vizag to Mumbai with 06 passengers and 02 crew members on board, veered off the runway at Mumbai International Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 17:02 pm today. There are no casualties. CSMIA’s airside team is on-ground to assist with the clearance on-site."

Following the incident, flight operations were initially halted but later resumed "for operations post DGCA clearance at 18:47 after all safety checks were conducted," as confirmed by the spokesperson.

A source revealed that the plane was transporting six officials from the infrastructure firm Dilip Buildcon, all of whom are safe. Family members of the passengers, including the pilots, have been informed of their well-being.

An official disclosed that during the 90-minute flight operations suspension, flights were diverted to Ahmedabad and Goa under the guidance of the Air Traffic Control (ATC).

The senior official explained that all flights had to be rerouted for over an hour because the entire Mumbai airport had to be temporarily closed. "Flights had to be diverted as the weather was bad and also Runway 14-32 too could not be used as the location of the incident was very close to this runway."

On that particular day, Runway 27 was being used for both landings and takeoffs, a deviation from the usual practice of utilising only one runway.

A private jet, carrying eight individuals, including two crew members, skidded off Runway 27 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai and crashed at approximately 5 pm on Thursday.
