91 Km Hanle–Chumar Road Opened in Ladakh

A 91-kilometre road connecting Hanle to the border village of Chumar in Ladakh has been opened to the public, the Army announced on Tuesday. Built by Project Himank of the Border Roads Organisation, the road spans altitudes of 14,500 to 17,200 feet, including the Salsa La Pass.
The Army said the route not only enhances strategic connectivity for the Armed Forces along the border but also improves local access and tourism in the region. It links key attractions such as the Hanle Observatory, Kyun Tso Lake, Chilling Tso Lake and onward to Tso Moriri.
Officials described the road as a milestone in strategic infrastructure development, supporting operational readiness, promoting tourism and fostering socio-economic growth in Ladakh’s remote areas.
