Delhi Seeks Rs 15 Billion for Road Upgrade from Centre

The Delhi government has requested Rs 15 billion from the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) to modernise the city’s roads, reduce dust-related pollution, and address traffic congestion. The proposal was put forward in June during a meeting between Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, where ongoing Public Works Department (PWD) projects were discussed.
A priority list of schemes will be shared soon, with the city targeting repairs to 600 km of roads this year and upgrades to 12 major traffic corridors. Gadkari also criticised the presence of toll plazas along signal-free corridors, suggesting the removal of temporary booths to improve traffic flow.
The Chief Minister further urged the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take over maintenance of stretches on NH-9, NH-2, and NH-148A, which were recently handed over to the Centre.
