Fourteen NESIDS Road Projects Completed In Assam

The North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), launched in 2017-18 and reorganised in 2022-23 into road and non-road components, aims to support targeted infrastructure creation across the North Eastern Region. Under the NESIDS (Roads) component, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region commissioned IIM Shillong to assess project impact in all eight states, including Assam, covering parameters such as infrastructure development, social outcomes, regional growth and implementation processes.

The study found that NESIDS road developments address immediate connectivity needs while delivering long-term socio-economic gains by improving trade, tourism and regional mobility. The initiatives also align with Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 11, supporting resilient infrastructure and sustainable urban development.

Since 2017, twenty road projects have been sanctioned for Assam, of which fourteen are now complete. No project in the state is delayed due to land acquisition or clearance issues. Implementation timelines vary depending on geography, terrain, land availability, statutory approvals, financial closure and other site-specific factors.

This information was provided by the Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Sukanta Majumdar, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
