Gadkari Reviews National Highways In Rajasthan And Himachal

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari conducted review meetings in New Delhi to assess the quality and maintenance of National Highway projects in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. The meetings were attended by the Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra, senior officials from the National Highways Authority of India and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and project contractors. The reviews were organised on the basis of inputs received through media and social media platforms.

Gadkari assessed the status of National Highways covering 10,064 km in Rajasthan and reviewed projects covering 1,947 km in Himachal Pradesh, examining progress and adherence to contractual timelines. Officials presented updates on ongoing works, maintenance schedules and quality checks undertaken at key stretches. The minister encouraged coordination among implementing agencies to address bottlenecks and accelerate completion.

He emphasised the need for timely execution and strict compliance with quality standards and urged the adoption of advanced technologies and modern construction practices to promote sustainable, durable and efficient highway infrastructure. The minister noted that robust highway networks are essential for improving connectivity, accelerating economic growth and enhancing commuter convenience across major corridors. Officials were urged to document best practices and share lessons across project teams.

Gadkari instructed officials to implement comprehensive monsoon preparedness measures, including effective drainage management, slope protection works, proactive preventive maintenance and rapid response mechanisms to minimise disruptions. The directives focused on ensuring road safety and enhancing long term asset durability through regular inspections and swift remedial action. Follow-up reviews were requested to monitor implementation and ensure persistent attention to quality and resilience. Emphasis was also placed on coordinating with local administrations and emergency services to facilitate timely clearances and rapid restoration of traffic and public safety.
