Indian Railways Approves Rs 1,530 Million Four-Lane ROB At Geratpur

Indian Railways has approved the construction of a four-lane road over bridge at Level Crossing number 305 on the Geratpur–Ahmedabad section of Western Railway in Gujarat at an estimated cost of Rs 1,530 million.

The project has been sanctioned to improve road safety and to ensure smoother movement of road traffic in the densely populated urban area where the level crossing is located.

The railway bridge portion of the new structure will measure 106 metres in total length and will comprise two composite girders of 53 metres each. The bridge will be followed by a 150 metre viaduct and the railway approach will extend for around 595 metres, reflecting the need for longer approaches and a larger structure because of the surrounding urban fabric.

Upon completion the four-lane ROB will remove the need for road users to wait for trains at the level crossing and will allow vehicles to move continuously across the railway line. The project is expected to provide commuters with safer passage, to reduce travel time and to ease congestion in the area. Authorities state the structure will also enhance local connectivity and support traffic management in a busy corridor.

The approval aligns with Indian Railways' broader efforts to eliminate level crossings and to strengthen road and rail safety infrastructure across urban centres. The scheme is intended to contribute to the development of modern and efficient transport infrastructure and to improve last-mile connectivity for residents and businesses. Implementation timelines and contractor selection will follow standard departmental procedures under the Western Railway zone.
