L&T wins bid for Mumbai's Rs 77.65 bn Tunnel Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been announced by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as the successful bidder for the tunnel project connecting Orange Gate and Marine Drive in Mumbai. The estimated cost of this development is Rs 77.65 billion.

The proposed tunnel will span 3.8 kilometers, creating a vital link between Orange Gate and Marine Drive on Mumbai's coastal road. It will consist of 2+2 lanes for regular traffic and an additional emergency lane for safety.

The tender approving committee, overseen by the state government, will finalise the selection of the contractor and proceed to award the letter of intent (LoI). Once completed, this tunnel project will become Mumbai's third-longest road tunnel.

Currently, Mumbai has a one-kilometer tunnel road as part of the Eastern Freeway and a 2.7-kilometer tunnel as a segment of the Coastal Road project.
