NHAI Plans 3 km Flyover At Narsingpur On NH-48

National Highways Authority of India has proposed the construction of a 3 km flyover at Narsingpur along the Delhi–Gurugram Expressway (NH-48) to ease chronic traffic congestion on one of the region’s busiest stretches.

The proposal was discussed at a recent review meeting in Delhi between NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar and officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority. Following the discussions, GMDA Chief Executive Officer P C Meena directed officials to begin preparing a detailed project report for the proposed flyover.

The stretch between the Hero Honda Chowk flyover and the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf has long been identified as a major bottleneck. Traffic slows significantly as vehicles merge from a four-lane section into a three-lane carriageway near Narsingpur. Poor service road conditions, unauthorised access points and heavy local traffic from nearby villages and industrial units further aggravate congestion, particularly during peak hours.

According to NHAI officials, the proposal is currently at a conceptual stage, with the final alignment, design and lane configuration to be determined after detailed technical and traffic studies. The meeting focused on road infrastructure upgrades, congestion mitigation, improved connectivity and public safety, with both agencies agreeing to work closely on implementation.

Decongestion of Rajeev Chowk was identified as a priority, with plans for two elevated grade separators to improve traffic flow. To facilitate smoother movement between Delhi and Sohna, NHAI has proposed a left-turn elevated ramp from NH-8 to NH-248A for vehicles travelling towards Sohna, with an exit to the service road. For traffic moving from Sohna towards Delhi, a right-turn elevated ramp has been proposed to connect NH-248A with NH-8, including access from the NH-248A service road. These measures are expected to improve connectivity towards the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway as well.

Officials said stakeholder consultations will be undertaken to address potential bottlenecks, including land-related issues that could affect construction of the elevated corridor. Drainage and waterlogging concerns were also discussed. GMDA said it is laying a stormwater drain up to Badshahpur to address waterlogging along the Narsingpur service lane, while NHAI will construct a culvert on NH-8. Both agencies will jointly prepare an execution plan for the works.

Pedestrian safety along NH-8 was another key focus area. Proposals include the construction of foot overbridges at multiple locations, with GMDA identifying priority stretches and NHAI undertaking construction. The foot overbridges, equipped with ramps and lifts, will be handed over to GMDA for maintenance after completion.

Waterlogging and flooding at underpasses during the monsoon season were also reviewed, with both agencies agreeing to conduct joint inspections and undertake necessary works to strengthen stormwater drainage connectivity ahead of the monsoon.
