Ahmedabad Mumbai High Speed Rail Corridor To Finish By End 2029

Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said the entire high speed rail corridor connecting Ahmedabad and Mumbai will be completed by the end of 2029. He expressed confidence after reviewing multiple ongoing railway projects in Ahmedabad and outlined progress on key works linked to the Mumbai–Ahmedabad high speed rail project. The minister indicated that the construction is proceeding rapidly and remains on schedule for the stated completion timeline.

Vaishnaw noted that 80 per cent of the work in the Gujarat section has been completed and that the network is being developed in a phase-wise manner. He said the first operational section, connecting Surat to Bilimora, is scheduled to open next year and will mark a significant milestone in regional connectivity. During a one-day visit the minister reviewed sites, interacted with engineers and construction teams at the Ahmedabad Bullet Train Station, and examined project execution plans.

Officials briefed him on the redevelopment of Ahmedabad Railway Station and on the master plan for Asarva Railway Station, which is to be transformed into a modern transport hub featuring enhanced passenger amenities and improved city connectivity. The minister reviewed plans to extend Sabarmati Station Road and to improve access around Shahpur to ensure smoother passenger movement. He also announced that the Omnagar underpass is to be completed before the upcoming Navratri festival, which will ease local traffic flows.

The visit covered broader railway infrastructure and development initiatives in the city and included assessments of construction quality, timelines and urban integration measures. Vaishnaw underlined the importance of coordination between agencies to meet the end of 2029 deadline and urged teams to maintain momentum while ensuring safety and standards. Authorities said continued monitoring and phased commissioning will guide the transition from construction to operations across the corridor.
