DB Engineering & Consulting (DB E&C) and EC Systra India (Systra) have been awarded the general consultant contract for the Pune Metro by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The joint venture will provide comprehensive consultancy services covering detailed engineering, construction supervision, testing and commissioning, and project management for the new metro corridors in Pune. The scope of services includes civil and structural design, track and station engineering, signalling and telecommunications integration, systems engineering, and assistance with procurement and contract management. The consultancy will also oversee quality assurance, safety audits and environmental compliance throughout the construction phase. The firms will coordinate design interfaces with rolling stock suppliers and integrate systems to ensure operational readiness, and will undertake geotechnical investigations, utility mapping and alignment optimisation to reduce land acquisition and construction risks. The appointment follows a competitive tender process and is intended to expedite project delivery while maintaining technical standards and cost control. The PMRDA has outlined a phased approach to construction and the consultants will be required to align design reviews and supervision with contractor schedules. The joint venture will be responsible for preparing design dossiers, construction drawings and supervising testing protocols before handover, and will implement robust reporting and risk management procedures during execution. Work will commence with preliminary surveys and site assessments and will include close coordination with city authorities and stakeholders to manage traffic and urban impacts. Both DB E&C and Systra bring extensive experience on urban rail projects in India and overseas and will deploy multidisciplinary teams to support timely completion. The consultancy engagement is expected to strengthen governance and technical oversight of the Pune Metro programme and to improve service delivery for commuters. Capacity building and knowledge transfer to local engineering teams will be a key element of the delivery model.
