PM to Inaugurate Revamped Begumpet Station on 22 May

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the newly redeveloped Begumpet Railway Station on 22 May. Upgraded at a cost of Rs 265.5 million, the project is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), which is modernising stations across India.

Begumpet Railway Station, under South Central Railway, is unique not only for its infrastructural overhaul but also for being fully staffed and operated by women. For over six years, a team of more than 20 women—including station masters, ticket clerks, RPF constables, and booking staff—has managed the station.

A model of the Indian Roller (Pala Pitta), Telangana’s state bird, has been installed as a centrepiece, celebrating regional identity and enhancing the visual charm of the station.

Begumpet is one of 40 stations in Telangana undergoing redevelopment under ABSS, with an overall investment of Rs 27.5 billion. Stations in Karimnagar and Warangal are also complete and will be inaugurated alongside Begumpet and 103 others across the country.

Strategically located in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Begumpet station caters to both suburban and long-distance passengers. Its foundation stone was laid by PM Modi in February 2024, with the aim of improving passenger comfort and boosting operational efficiency.
