Railways Launch Double-Stack Niryat Cargo Express

Indian Railways has achieved another milestone in freight transportation by operating the Niryat Cargo Express as a double-stack container train from the Ichhapuri Container Terminal in Gurugram to Mundra Port. The service marks the first time a timetable-based assured transit train has been operated from Ichhapuri, following 20 earlier assured transit trips from Garhi in Gurugram.

The weekly, time-bound service is designed to support exporters by offering faster, reliable and predictable movement of goods to Mundra Port, helping to cut delays and reduce logistics costs. Operated by the Delhi Division of Northern Railway, the train runs as a crack train with minimal halts and uninterrupted movement, enabling quicker transit and timely delivery.

Officials said the initiative will be particularly beneficial for high-value export cargo, strengthening assured freight connectivity and improving export competitiveness through more efficient rail-based logistics.
