Virar-Dahanu Railway Upgrade 35% Complete, Set to Add 200+ Services

The four-tracking project between Virar and Dahanu, undertaken by the Maharashtra Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), has reached 35% completion. Part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Project-3, it is scheduled for completion by 2027, according to Lokmat.

With a budget of Rs 35.78 billion (£350 million), the 64-kilometre project involves the construction of third and fourth railway tracks. These additions will alleviate congestion on the existing dual-track system, which currently struggles with heavy traffic from suburban, freight, and express trains, restricting service expansion.

Major Boost for Commuters MRVC has confirmed that the additional tracks will facilitate over 200 new local train services, providing much-needed relief for passengers. Presently, only six to seven direct services run daily between Churchgate and Dahanu. The completion of quadrupling will significantly enhance connectivity, making daily commuting more efficient.

Besides track laying, station buildings and bridges are under construction at key locations, including Virar, Vaitarna, Saphale, Kelve Road, Dahanu Road, and Umroli. These upgrades are essential to improving station facilities and overall travel experience.

A Game-Changer for Western Railways The Virar-Dahanu Road quadrupling project will help decongest both suburban and mainline railway networks, benefiting hundreds of thousands of passengers.

Vilas Sopan Wadekar, Chairman and Managing Director of MRVC, assured that the project remains on track for timely completion, promising smoother and more efficient train services for the growing number of commuters.
